North Carolina Brass Band is presenting a free concert, “Brass & Pipes,” on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 7 to 9 p.m., at First United Methodist Church of Charlotte, 501 N Tryon Street, Charlotte, North Carolina.
The band, conducted by Brian Meixner, will be joined by organ soloist, Evan Currie, for this performance.
The North Carolina Brass Band is a 28-member ensemble composed of many of the finest brass players and percussionists in the state. The band includes symphony orchestra musicians, leading soloists, chamber music professionals, jazz artists, brass and percussion professors at universities throughout the region, and highly sought-after freelance professionals. The diverse musicians of the NCBB have come together to create an ensemble as colorful and rich as the literature they perform. The NCBB was founded in 2014 and its 28-member instrumentation is closely aligned with that of the traditional British Brass Band. With its roots in Industrial Revolution-era England, brass bands are most commonly found in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe. Through the North American Brass Band Association, the popularity of brass bands has been increasing steadily in the United States since the mid-late 20th century. The NCBB is excited to be a part of this movement and to share its rich tradition with audiences across the state.
