Opera Carolina is always working to bring opera to a wider audience, and with their first annual Pooches & Puccini Dog and Music Festival, they’re taking a big step and reaching across the species divide.
The free festival will take place on Saturday, May 13th, 2017, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., at LangTree Properties, 150 Landings Drive, Mooresville. It is a family-friendly festival.
Opera Carolina company members will perform some of Puccini’s most beloved arias from 3 until 5 p.m.
The drop-in event is from 3 until 10 p.m. at LangTree (150 Landings Dr., Mooresville, N.C. 28117) on Lake Norman. There is no admission fee. Food, beer and wine will be available from many of the LangTree Tree Restaurants and D9 Brewing will have its special Hopera ale available.
The hours of 3 until 5 p.m. will be especially kid-friendly with a bounce house, snow cones, and live family-friendly performances.
Spectrum News Anchor Rob Boisvert will serve as master of ceremonies.
And, at 4:30 p.m., Opera Carolina Company members will put on a 45-minute performance of famous Disney songs and show tunes, timed just right for children’s attention spans.
The crazy mash-up of opera and dogs hits a high note at 6 p.m. when “Duets with your Dog” gets started. It’s a karaoke-style competition involving dogs and their humans. A panel of judges, comprised of three local canine lovers and one actual canine, will decide the winner.
Advance registration is necessary to compete in “Duets with your Dog.” Registration opens May 1 and closes May 12. Click here to register.
The fun continues after sundown when Lucas Torres, a favorite Latin jazz band and frequent Art • Poetry • Music performer, takes the stage from 7 to 9 p.m.
