Play Violin at The Violin Shoppe and Get Free Tickets to the Movie "Chevalier"

The Violin Shoppe, at 2112 E 7th Street, Charlotte, NC, is partnering with Searchlight Pictures to offer a unique promotion.

Are you a violinist? Or maybe there’s a violin in your past? Even if it’s been a while since you played, and even if you weren’t all that great when you did play, if you’re willing to give it a shot, you can get free tickets to the film, Chevalier, as a reward.

Chevalier is based on the inspiring true story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, and his journey from illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner to celebrated violinist-composer and fencer.

Searchlight has provided The Violin Shoppe with sheet music for a few of Bologne’s pieces for the violin. If you come into the shop and attempt to play any excerpt of a piece provided, you will be “knighted” and will receive a free ticket to the early screening of the film on April 19, 2023, at 7 p.m., at Regal Stonecrest at Piper Glen 22, 7824 Rea Road, Charlotte, NC.

Here are some things to know:

You don’t have to play the excerpt well. You just have to “attempt” it.
If you don’t bring in a violin you can use one of the violins from the shop.
The first 10 people to play the excerpt will receive two reserved seating tickets to the movie.
After the first 10, violinists will receive two general screening passes. These are first-come, first-serve, and don’t guarantee admission, so make sure to get to the movie early.
One of the store owners has told me that the excerpts are “fairly simple.” (That might be subjective.)
