Clearwater Artist Studios, 223 Crowell Drive NW, Concord, will be showcasing work by Robert Crum this month. His exhibit “Return to the Land of My Ancestors” is the culmination of extensive research. He’s created a body of oil and watercolor paintings that tells the story of cultural conflict in the 18th century North Carolina backcountry that led to America’s initial expansion into Kentucky and beyond. This story is told using 16 oil paintings, 15 watercolors and other artifacts completed by Robert Alvin Crum. This project is a recipient of a 2016 Preservation Education and Publication Award from Historic Salisbury Foundation, Inc. and a 2015 Arts and Cultural Development Grant from the Rowan Arts Council.
The public is invited to two events this weekend to experience this work.
Opening night is Friday, September 9, 2016 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm where there will be food, refreshments, music by LeDerick Blackburn and a short storytelling session by author and Boone historian Randell Jones.
On Saturday, September 10 from 11 am to 4 pm, this journey will be complimented with food and refreshments, entertainment and education and an “Artist Talk” by Robert Alvin Crum. This is in conjunction with ClearWater Artist Studios’ monthly ‘2nd Saturday Open Studios’ in which many other artists who lease studios will be present with their studios open.
