American Tire Distributors (ATD), North America’s largest tire distributor, is sponsoring Reinvent The Wheel – a 24-hour data hackathon.
It takes place at CenterStage NoDa, 2315 N. Davidson Street, from Friday, March 29th, 2019, at 5 p.m., until Saturday March 30th, ending with a dinner and award ceremony at 6:30 p.m. and a bar crawl and afterparty at 9 p.m.
ATD is searching for 20 teams of the sharpest data science minds to solve a real-world problem that will transform the tire industry (think Shark Tank for hackers).
Reinvent The Wheel is more than just an opportunity to hack – it’s an opportunity to contribute to reinventing an industry, show off your skills, network in an inspiring setting, and win great prizes.
All participants (current students, young professionals, established data science experts) are welcome – though you’ll need skills in coding (R/Python), data visualization and basic data science in order to complete the challenge.
Free hotel accommodation is provided to those who need it.
At the beginning of ReinventTheWheel, 20 teams of 4-6 participants will be given a challenge from the tire industry – and 24 hours to solve it.
Your team will face mini-challenges throughout the hackathon to gain power-ups — extra support to boost your chances of winning, such as:
- Support from an ATD Data Scientist
- 30 minutes of presentation support
- A 30-minute session with a massage therapist to loosen up muscles
- A power-up package (like Red Bull and face masks)
- Hardware giveaways
- More
In addition, you’ll have access to tire and data science experts throughout the competition in case you need backup.
At the 24-hour mark, you’ll give the judges a model of your solution, along with a 5 -10 page “pitch” of why your solution should win.
The judges will select the top five teams to show off their solutions in a five-minute presentation during the awards ceremony.
