Discovery Place Nature, at 1658 Sterling Road, is holding a free Solar Eclipse Tailgate Party.
If you’re not head to the path of totality, view the 98% eclipsed sun at this event. It’ll take place Monday, August 21st, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and it’s free.
The museum store has some solar eclipse viewing glasses, but obviously supply is limited. In fact, I’d advise calling them in advance and seeing if you can buy them before the event.
Here’s info:
Witness the first solar eclipse to be visible from the United States in nearly four decades. Charlotte is located near the path of totality (98% eclipse) and from our parking lot, you will have a prime location to witness the sun disappearing behind the moon.
View the solar eclipse “tailgate style” with Discovery Place educators who will be answering questions and setting up eclipse-themed activities. Please bring lawn chairs, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy.
The Museum will be partially open from noon – 4:00 p.m. for the solar eclipse viewing and special NASA approved solar eclipse glasses will be available for sale in Trail’s End Store. Two special planetarium shows will run at noon and 12:30 p.m.
Please note: Arrive early since the parking lot will be closing at 1:30 p.m. for prime solar eclipse viewing.
