Staying in town for the solar eclipse on August 21st? Even if you miss the total eclipse (you’d need to travel just a little bit for that) we will have a partial eclipse here in Charlotte. 98% of the sun will be covered by the moon between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
One place to celebrate is Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 South New Hope Road in Belmont.
The cost of their Solar Eclipse Viewing Party is just the normal cost of admission, which is $12.95 for adults, and $6.95 for kids 2-12. Kids under 2 are free, and seniors 60+ are $11.95. Members are admitted free.
Of course while you’re there you’ll get the opportunity to explore the gardens before and after the eclipse too.
Crafts for kids include a do-it-yourself pinhole viewer, sun dial and Earth, Sun & Moon Model.
The sun will first enter the shade of the moon around 1:11 p.m. in Gaston County and max coverage will be around 2:40 p.m. A limited supply of eclipse glasses will be available to borrow or can be purchased directly from The Garden Store.
Sproutycakes Bakery will be selling themed dessert delights and a signature cocktail will be available for purchase among other snacks and beverages.
