High school students have a chance to learn Mandarin Chinese this summer, at no charge, through StarTalk. This in-person program at Queens University takes place July 14 to August 1, 2025. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit.
Paid Teacher Assistant (TA) jobs are available for college students or graduates with some Mandarin experience. Submit the contact form on the website to inquire about a position.

Applications have opened for 2025. You can apply here. Apply by February 21, 2025, to receive priority consideration. If spaces remain or become available after this time, additional selected applicants will be notified on a rolling basis.
Daily instruction revolves around the program theme of holidays and celebrations. During the program, students will use the target language to participate in engaging cultural activities and create cultural products related to a variety of celebrations, festivals, and events.
Details About Program:
- The program will meet Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with optional late pick-up until 4:00 p.m.
- Open to students who will be entering 9th grade in August, 2025, to those who have just graduated high school in June, 2025.
- Daily lunch and snack are FREE!
- Students who successfully complete the program can potentially earn 4 hours of college credit for Chinese 101, 102 or 220. The program may be repeated at higher levels for additional credit.
- The program is grant-funded, so there’s no charge at all.
