Summer of Opportunity, a program of Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and YMCA of Greater Charlotte, gives teenagers from 13 to 18 free access to three branches of the YMCA on Friday and Saturday nights through August 5th.
The locations are:
- Simmons YMCA,6824 Democracy Dr,
- McCrorey Family YMCA, 3801 Beatties Ford Rd/li>
- Stratford Richardson YMCA,1946 West Blvd
Teens who register for the program will get full access to the facility.
Teens will participate in a variety of free programming and activities, including open gym, sports and fitness, creative arts, workshops, swimming and a meal.
In addition, there will be special programming each weekend:
- 7/14-15- Healthy Eating and Wellness
- 7/21-22- Social Justice
- 7/28-29- Build your Own Brand
- 8/4-5- College and Career Readiness
The activity will take place on Friday and Saturday nights from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Doors will close at 9 p.m. and re-entry will not be allowed.
