Sustain Charlotte, AARP Charlotte, Partners for Parks, and Carolina Thread Trail are hosting a free event, Growing Our Greenways Walk: Irwin and Stewart Creek Greenways.
It takes place Friday, March 3rd, 2023, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It’s free, but registration is required.
Join us for a casual walk as we explore west Charlotte’s Irwin and Stewart Creek greenways. This free and family-friendly event is co-hosted by Sustain Charlotte, AARP Charlotte, Partners for Parks and the Carolina Thread Trail. We’re working together to advocate for an equitable — and fast — expansion of Mecklenburg County’s greenway network.
Learn about how greenways are built and how a complete network would benefit people of all ages and abilities. You will also have a chance to get involved with the efforts of Sustain Charlotte and their Growing our Greenway partners to expand our greenway network.
This is a family-friendly event that is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. All participants will be required to sign a waiver upon arrival.
Where: The event will start and end at the same location: Seversville Park at 530 S Bruns Ave, Charlotte 28208. Look for the black Sustain Charlotte tent when you arrive to check in.
Parking: Seversville Park at 530 S Bruns Ave has a small parking lot. There is also a larger lot at the neighboring Wallace Pruitt Recreation Center.
CATS bus: There are several CATS bus routes that serve the area, although it will require a 15 to 20 minute walk to reach the event site. Find your route at ridetransit.org
Route: The group will follow an “out and back” route following the Irwin and Stewart Creek Greenways. Everyone is welcome to explore more of the greenway after the event ends. This will be a comfortable and casual event. You are welcome to walk less distance than the main group or to add additional miles at the end of our time together.
Rain date: In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to March 10. Registered attendees will receive an email notifying you of the change.
Accessibility: The host strives to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please contact Meg Fencil (meg.fencil@sustaincharlotte.org).
