Swordwind Historical Swordsmanship is offering a Beginning Sword Fighting Workshop on Saturday, 4th, 2020, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.., at Nevin Community Park, 6000 Statesville Road.
The cost is $10.
Purchase tickets on Eventbrite.
In this introductory 2-hour workshop you will learn the fundamentals of wielding a traditional long sword, taught by Historical European Martial Arts Instructors Eric Lowe and Jessica Blair, as well as senior students from Swordwind Historical Swordsmanship.
All gear will be provided. All you need to do is wear comfortable clothes that allow for a free range of movement (i.e.: gym/workout clothes, or loose-fitting jeans.)
Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before the start of class to allow time for finding the meeting location and to get everybody settled in for the start of class.
The class will start with a short warm-up, followed by an introduction game.
Then they’ll go over sword safety and how to hold and grip a sword properly before moving into learning a fun, flashy, historically accurate, and deadly (if you weren’t wearing safety gear) sequence of sword moves.
At the end of class you’ll show off what you’ve learned by striking one of our instructors (which will also be a great opportunity for videos or photos).
There will be breaks for water and stretching out sore muscles throughout the course, and there will be time after class to discuss Historical Martial Arts and other questions you may have.
After entering Nevin Park from Statesville road, take the first left and you’ll see a large blue pavillion. The group will be meeting under the pavilion. The pavilion does provide protection from sun and rain, so this will be a rain or shine event.
This class is open to people of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. German longswords weigh 3 pounds, so if you can lift 3 pounds, you can participate.
Children 12 and up are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
