Many North Carolina State Parks are offering Thanksgiving Weekend guided hikes. These hikes are a great way to enjoy the outdoors and experience an alternative to the Black Friday madness and to make the most of the weekend.
The hikes vary in difficulty.

Lake Norman State Park

Join a Ranger and enjoy a short hike at Lake Norman State Park. Hike off the turkey and cranberry sauce with an enjoyable stroll on the Alder Trail. The Alder Trail follows the shorelines of Norwood and Hicks Creek. Participates can expect to discover different flora and fauna which call the park home. The hike starts at 10 AM and will leave from the Visitor Center. For more information, please call 704-528-6350.

Turkey Talk
Saturday, November 24th, 2018

Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center for a hike through the woods and talk turkey. Learn the natural history of turkeys and a few interesting facts. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water if you want. Hike should last about one hour. For more information, please call 704-528-6350.

Fall Hike at Morrow Mountain State Park

Lets work off that Thanksgiving meal by taking a hike around the Morrow Mountain loop (0.8 mile). We will review basic geological concepts, the creation of the Uwharrie Mountains, and how the mountain became a significant resource for Native Americans. Bring a water bottle and comfy hiking shoes! At the end we will learn how to use an atlatl, an Archaic Indian hunting tool.
Hike Length and Difficulty: Easy, 0.8 mile
