Crowders Mountain State Park
Crowders Mountain is one of the most popular hiking spots in the Charlotte region and for good reason — that view at the top! On a clear day you can easily see the Charlotte skyline. There are two trails that take you to the top.
Climb The Backside Trail, which, at .7 miles and 337 steps, offers a direct approach to the top. You can also get to the top via the Tower Trail, which is longer, at 1.8 miles, but not as steep.
Both are rated as strenuous climbs, but are doable for most people, including children. If you climb up on the steps of the Backside Trail, your knees might appreciate descending on the Tower Trail, which is step-free, and mostly on a gravel road. Be careful at the top.
