Rock the 1980s like never before, and save money in the process, during the Totally ’80s Retro Ski Weekend, Feb. 22-25 in Beech Mountain, North Carolina.
This totally awesome weekend features a totally awesome lodging special. Book a room for Friday and Saturday at the regular rate, and add either Thursday night or Sunday night for just $19.80, plus tax.
And to make it even more enticing, couples can take advantage of special retro pricing for night skiing on Thursday. That night’s Couples Night rate for two lift tickets is just $24 total, or $12 per ticket.
Charlotteans will notice a lot of Queen City connections during these four righteous days of bending the space-time continuum.
Saturday night’s headliner at Beech Mountain Resort is Charlotte’s Cassette Rewind, the hottest ’80s tribute band in the Carolinas. Born in the ’80s and raised on radio, Cassette Rewind cues up the ultimate high-energy new wave rock experience.
“We’re going to keep people completely engaged, fists in the air, singing as loud as they can and dancing the entire time,” says lead singer Brandon Kirkley. “We’ve added six or seven new songs just for the retro ski weekend, and we have a lot of fans coming up from Charlotte.”
Charlotte’s very own Tommy DeCarlo, lead singer of the legendary rock band Boston, kick starts the festivities with an ’80s show with his band, DeCarlo, on Thursday night at Famous Fast Eddie’s. Although playing mostly 1980s hits, DeCarlo promises to dip into the ’70s for some of Boston’s biggest hits.
Masters of ceremonies for the weekend will be Charlotte syndicated radio morning show duo of Ace & TJ. They will emcee the fun for such events as the 1980s Big Hair Contest, ’80s Name That Song Contest, Rubik’s Cube Competition and the ever-popular $500 Totally Retro Apparel Contest.
Other festivities include totally tubular snow tubing, retro karaoke, a dayglo ski parade and appearances by Charlotte’s very own Brake Michaels, the South’s premier Bret Michaels look-alike artist.
So, dig out those neon ski jackets, acid wash jeans, leg warmers and bandanas. Only Beech Mountain takes you back to a time when ski clothes featured shoulder pads, rock stars wore spandex, and video killed the radio star.
