March has been designated as Women’s History Month in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. It was first celebrated as a week-long event on Sonoma County, California, in 1978, and then became a national week in 1980 when President jimmy Carter issues a presidential proclamation. In 1987, Congress passed a bill that designated March as Women’s History Month.
During this month, there are many opportunities to study, observe and celebrate the role of women in American history. In addition, you’ll find events that support women entrepreneurs, through markets and other shopping events.
March 8 is International Women’s Day, so there are sometimes special events around that time.
