“Elysian” – an adjective used to describe a place or thing that is divinely inspired, beautiful or creative, peaceful and perfect.
This is for all Zoukers, dancers, anybody of North Carolina and surrounding areas.
What is Brazilian Zouk? Brazilian Zouk is a partner dance originating from Brazil. Also known as zouk-lambada, the dance is a descendant of lambada, the music & dance style that swept over the world like a storm in the late 1980’s. This dance is characterized by the dancers’ undulating bodies and the girls’ flowing hair.
Depending on the style of Brazilian zouk, you can see a close connection embrace and long graceful steps, strong hip movements, body isolations, off axis spins and beautiful head movements.
While the dance is often called sensual, this does not mean that it is sexual. It is danced by people of all ages in night clubs, dance schools and events worldwide.
The zouk scene is a very unique scene that is warm, friendly and a place for connection, welcoming all newcomers.
Don’t know how to dance Zouk? We’ve got you covered. We will be starting the evening off at 9:15pm with an introductory lesson taught by Victoria Calamusa and Jasper. This lesson is for newbies AND experienced dancers. There are more to the fundamentals than you think! That includes warming up + movements and connection.
Following the class there will be social dancing all night long starting from 10pm until 2am, aka until the last person leaves the dance floor! We will be playing a variety of your favorite Zouk music and sets. If you have any requests, just let us know ahead of time and we will be sure to play it!
